Steps of how to open TXT file
Here is a simple and direct guide on how to open TXT file on your device.
- Choose from the menu:
- Select a text file in the Open Data File dialog box.
- If necessary, select the encoding for this file.
- In the subsequent windows of the Text File Import Wizard, specify the reading options.
Encoding
The file encoding affects how character data is read. Typically, Unicode data files contain a byte order mark that identifies the character encoding. Some programs create Unicode files without a byte order mark, and code page data files do not contain an encoding identifier.
- Unicode (UTF-8). Reads the file as Unicode UTF-8.
- Unicode (UTF-16). Reads the file as Unicode UTF-16 in operating system byte order.
- Unicode (UTF-16BE). Reads the file as Unicode UTF-16 (big-endian).
- Unicode (UTF-16LE). Reads the file as Unicode UTF-16 (little endian).
- local encoding. Reads a file in the character encoding of the code page of the current locale.
If a file contains a Unicode byte order mark, it is read in that Unicode encoding, regardless of the encoding you choose. If the file does not contain a Unicode byte order mark, the character encoding of the current locale’s code page is assumed by default until you select one of the Unicode encodings.
To change the current locale for data files in a different code page character encoding, select Edit>Options from the menu and change the locale on the Language tab.
