In this article, we’re highlighting a detailed guide on how to rotate video in VLC on your device. With the increasing number of smartphone users, many of us have become not only taking photos but also capturing special moments on video. If you’ve also used your mobile phone to shoot a video, it’s possible that when you try to play it on your computer, you find that it’s rotated. This error is seen in many smartphones, as most of these phones do not take into account the orientation when shooting video.
Well, we will tell you an easy way how to use a VLC player to rotate videos.
Part 1. How to Rotate Video in VLC Media Player on Windows and Mac
Yes! Known as a free media player, VLC Media Player also helps you rotate videos the way you want and save them that way. To find out how to do this, just follow the steps below.
Step 1: To get started, download and install VLC Media Player on your computer.
Step 2: Now launch VLC Media Player and open the incorrectly rotated video on the computer.
Step 3: Go to the main menu and select Tools > Effects & Filters.
Step 4: A new window will open called Settings and Effects, select the Video Effects tab.
Step 5: With the Video Effects tab open, go to the Geometry tab.
Step 6: Geometry is the tab where we will get the video rotated in the right direction. With the Geometry tab open, check the Transformation box to enable it, and at the bottom select Rotate 90 Degrees. Then click on the Close button to exit this window.
Note: You can also rotate the video to a different angle by selecting the appropriate angle instead of the Rotate 90 Degrees option.
Step 7: Now you can play the rotated video at the correct angle with VLC Media Player. And to save a properly rotated video, you need to go back to the main interface of VLC and select Tools>Settings.
Step 8: Go to the bottom left of the interface, and select the “All” option under Show Settings.
Step 9: Now find the Stream Output section in the left pane and expand it to Sout stream > Transcode. After that, select a video transformation filter in the Video Filter option and click “Save” to save these settings.
Step 10: Go to the main menu and select Media>Convert/Save.
Step 11: On the “File” tab, click “Add” to add the newly edited video file, and then click the drop-down arrow to the right of the Convert/Save button to select Convert.
Step 12: Now click the Browse button to select a destination folder (for example, Desktop), enter a new name for the converted file (for example, “Video_1_Rotated”), and select an output type (for example, “.mov”).
Step 13: On the same page, select the “Video- + MP3 (MP4)” output profile, then click the Tools button on the right side to edit this profile.
Step 14: After the profile settings form opens, go to the Audio codec tab.
Step 15: Click the dropdown arrow for Codec and select MP3 and click Save.
Step 16: Now you should return to the Convert window, click on the Start button to start the conversion.
Step 17: When the conversion is completed, you will see a screen similar to the one below.
Now you can play the converted video in any media player you like.
Important: After the above rotate and save operations, it’s better to reset VLC Media Player settings to default: just go to Tools>Preferences and click Reset Preferences.
